“I Never Saw Another Butterfly.” This program features overlooked Holocaust-era music that was blacklisted by the Nazi regime. This concert is meant to remember the lives that were lost in the Holocaust, and to revive a genre of music that has been neglected in the music world.

Sophia Flores is an acclaimed classical saxophonist and music educator, known for her expressive musicality, passionate lyricism, and distinctive artistry. Sophia is a Latina artist based in Los Angeles and is known for captivating audiences with her vibrant, melodious, and evocative performances. Establishing herself as a prominent voice in the classical music world, Sophia has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician at the Navy Band Saxophone Symposium in Fairfax, Virginia, and at the North American Saxophone Alliance Region 2 Conference in Fullerton, California. In addition to her active voice in the saxophone community, Sophia was awarded First Place at the Charleston International Autumn Music Festival and won the Concordia Wind Orchestra Concerto Competition. In addition to her awards, Sophia has performed solo at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts, Irvine Barclay Theatre, PBS, Fox News, and ABC News. Sophia has appeared with ensembles including Sacramento Symphonic Winds, Loyola Law Orchestra, Lutheran Summer Music Concert Band and Orchestra, Thornton Wind Ensemble, Concordia Wind Orchestra, and Concordia Symphony Orchestra. She has also served as faculty for the saxophone program at the Lutheran Summer Music Festival in Valparaiso, Indiana, and the Concordia University Chamber Music Festival in Irvine, California. Sophia received her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and Saxophone Performance and a Single Subject Music Teaching Credential from Concordia University Irvine. She is pursuing a Master of Music in Saxophone Performance at the University of Southern California. This upcoming year, Sophia will be moving to Sacramento, California, where she will be teaching public school music and continuing her musical collaborations and performing career.
Andrew Edwards, pianist, has maintained an active performance schedule as both soloist and collaborative pianist over the past decade. A recipient of many awards and honors, Andrew has been featured as a concerto soloist with orchestras including the Orange County Symphony, the Southern California Philharmonic, and the USC Thornton Wind Ensemble. Having performed several solo recitals throughout the Southern California region, Andrew was an MTAC Young Artist Guild winner and received the National YoungArts Foundation Merit Award. Andrew received his BM in Piano Performance from the University of Southern California-Thornton School of Music, where he studied with Jeffrey Kahane and was awarded both the Undergraduate Bachelor of Music Performance Award in Piano and the Keyboard Studies Ensemble Award. Currently, he is a candidate for the Master of Music in Piano Performance at USC, where he is continuing his studies with Kahane. A pre-college student of Sofia Zukerman, Andrew has performed in masterclasses for Eduardo Delgado, Antoinette Perry, Sergey Schepkin, Dmitri Rachmanov, Stewart Gordon, Lidia Boguslavsky, Olga Kern, and Mike Cheng-Yu Lee. Andrew has been in high demand as a collaborative pianist for professional musicians, university-level degree recitals, youth music festivals and competitions, and he currently serves as collaborative pianist for the instrumental area at California State University, Fullerton. Andrew’s interest in music extends to exploring diverse styles of music, improvisation, arranging, and music production.
